About Recreation Program

PGSL's recreational program is for all girls that want to learn about the game of softball. Girls of all abilities and levels of experience are welcome from kindergarten to high school. Softball and baseball are two of the most most popular sports in America. Learning the rules and skills associated with softball at an early age is a great way to understand America's favorite pastime, learn about teamwork and sportsmanship and learn a sport that she can play recreationally even through adulthood.

The recreation softball season runs from early March through late May and typically has more than 500 girls playing each spring. Our games are played in Pleasanton, primarily at the Ken Mercer Sports Park on Parkside Drive.  PGSL also offers an abbreviated "skills" program on Sunday afternoons in the fall for girls interested in learning the game and/or expanding on the skills that they learned in the spring.

The spring season divisions are: T-ball, 6U, 7U, 8U, 10U, Middle School and High School ("Seniors"). Players are placed into the age divided divisions based on their birthday on January 1st of the current year. For example, if your daughter was 8 years old on January first of this year, she is eligible to play in the 8U division, but not the 7U division.

The 10U and Middle School divisions are divided into two classifications, “Teal” and “Black”.  The “Black” (aka "Upper") group is for girls with above average ability and/or experience that will play in a more competitive environment. The “Middle School-Black” and “Seniors" leagues play an "inter-league" schedule with neighboring cities.

Evaluations for the "Black" groups occur in December. Your daughter must attend evaluations to be eligible for the "Black" teams. All girls that plan to play in "10U" and "Middle School" should attend the evaluations. Having proper evaluations of skill levels helps maintain a competitive balance in both our "Teal" and "Black" leagues.
